Wells Fargo Bank, inside Safeway at 1366 East Ave., Chico
Incident Case Number: 09-8500
Victim: Wells Fargo Bank
Suspect: Amber Chiree Warren, 23 years old, of Oroville, CA Charges: 459, 503, 32 PC
Kyle Jayson Wood, 22 years old, of Oroville, CA Charges: 459, 32 PC
On 10-17-09 a white male entered the Safeway store, approached the Wells Fargo teller, Amber Warren, and demanded money. The teller handed over the cash from her drawer and the robber fled. Amber Warren gave the patrol officer and detectives a statement at the time. Numerous leads came in on that case and they were followed up on. An extensive search and investigation followed but the perpetrator was not identified.
In January 2012 CPD Detective Jose Lara received a tip in this case. He and Detective Abigail Madden, in conjunction with local FBI agents, followed up on that tip and identified Kyle Wood as the person who presented the note to the teller and took the cash. Amber Warren and Kyle Wood were friends at the time and conspired to steal the money from the bank by staging it as a robbery.
On Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 Kyle Wood was contacted and arrested by Detective Lara at the Denny’s Restaurant in Oroville. He was booked into the Butte County Jail for burglary and conspiracy.
On Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 Amber Warren was contacted and arrested. She was booked into the Butte County Jail on charges of burglary, embezzlement, and conspiracy.
Due to this crime being an “inside job,” it was not actually a robbery, but a burglary and embezzlement.
For convenience, I will also attach the press release that was put out in Oct. 2009.
