November 2nd is Law Enforcement Records and Support Personnel Day

Each year, the first Wednesday of November is dedicated statewide to the men and women who serve as law enforcement records and support personnel. In 1999, Governor Gray Davis introduced this day as a way to acknowledge records and support personnel who work to assist law enforcement personnel in their efforts to pursue, capture and process those who break the law.

Records and support personnel are skilled professionals whose training and expertise contributes significantly to the success of the mission of the Chico Police Department and the State of California law enforcement system.

The Chico Police Department is proud of the work of our records and support personnel and is pleased to join with Law Enforcement statewide in recognizing them on November 2
nd, 2011.

Halloween 2011 Recap

Halloween 2011 Recap

The Chico Police Department is pleased to see the end of the Halloween 2011 weekend. The operational period, which began Friday at 1800 hrs and concluded Tuesday at 0600 hrs, meant that Department resources were stretched to their limits. With Halloween itself on a Monday, it was anticipated that the bulk of the activity that typically concerns police would take place on Friday and Saturday nights. This was in fact the case. Police saw several thousand young people throughout the south campus neighborhoods with the highest concentration near 5th and Ivy Street. While the rest of the city was largely unaware of the activity, Police were kept busy until 3 and 4 a.m. both nights.

Based on our experiences in past years, Chico PD took a proactive and highly visible enforcement posture during the entire weekend. Officers made early contacts with parties in an effort to educate the hosts and to avoid large open parties which have been a source of violence in the past. As the crowd size grew, Police focused on keeping the crowds moving which prevented large groups from spilling into the roadway. At one point on Saturday night, Police had to redirect pedestrian traffic away from the 5
th and Ivy intersection to maintain access for emergency vehicles. Mounted Officers from Chico PD, Stanislaus County Sherriff’s Department and C.H.P. were key to moving the crowds and deserve much of the credit for preventing violence.

49 arrests were made on Friday night and 44 arrests were made on Saturday night. The largest crowds were seen on Saturday nights. The majority of the arrests made were alcohol related. There were also 22 emergency responses for alcohol overdoses.

Chico Police were assisted by Officers from CSUC Police, CSU Critical Response Unit, Butte County Sheriffs, Alcohol Beverage Control, Department of Justice, Glenn County Sheriff’s, Oroville PD, Paradise PD, Gridley PD, Redding PD, Butte County Juvenile Hall, Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, Enloe Hospital, and numerous volunteers from Chico VIPS, Butte County STARS, Chico PD Explorers and Paradise PD VIPS.

The statistics on the following page reflect the arrests processed at Chico PD. There were minimal arrests on Sunday and none related to Halloween activity on the West side. On Halloween itself, there was very little activity and the additional Officers on duty were released at 2200 hrs.
