Pursuit turns into a family affair

On Monday February 20, 2012 at approximately 5:20 P.M., a Redding Police Officer stopped Jason Laurita, 39 years of Redding for a traffic violation. After contacting Laurita, the officer was returning to his vehicle to start a traffic citation when Laurita sped away spinning his tires. Laurita failed to stop for pursuing officers leading them to the area of Polaris Way and Capella Street in the City of Redding.

Laurita was uncooperative with officers’ orders, and a police canine was deployed enabling officers to safely take him into custody. Jason Laurita was found to have stopped in front of his parent’s house. While officers were taking him into custody, Laurita’s father, Lawrence Laurita, 68 years of Redding, interfered with officers after being ordered numerous times to stay back. He was taken into custody for resisting officers and was booked at Shasta County Jail.

The driver, Jason Laurita was booked at Shasta County Jail for felony evading, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.
