SYNOPSIS: On Tuesday, 02/28/12 at 1253 hours, SHASCOM received a 911 phone call from a citizen advising that a stabbing had occurred in the area of the above listed address. Members of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office responded. While enroute to the scene, SHASCOM provided Officers with constant updates of the whereabouts of the suspect. They also advised that one of the victims was now deceased and the second victim was trapped inside of a pick-up truck which had caught on fire.
First arriving deputies responded to the victim who was trapped inside of the truck and tried courageously to rescue the victim. Due to the intensity of the heat, fire and explosions, deputies were unable to extract the victim from the fire. The victim has been identified as Karl Bradshaw.
The second deceased victim was located lying on the ground in front of his residence. He was identified as Ralph Torborg.
The suspect, Thomas McDonald was located just down the street from the victim’s residence. He was taken into custody without incident. When taken into custody, Officers observed him to be cover in blood and tissue matter in which he received from the violent attack and beating he had done to the victims.
Two other victims identified as Captain Ricks and Gary St. Pierre received stab type wounds to their face area. Both were treated and released from the hospital.
Detectives quickly learned that the two deceased victims were innocent bystanders in this violent attack. Karl Bradshaw and Ralph Torborg had nothing to do with the fight that had occurred at the above listed residence. Ralph Torborg was an elderly man who lived just three houses down from the above listed address had lived in Shasta County for over forty years. It is believed that he was working in his yard when Thomas McDonald approached him and beat him to death with a splitting maul. The beating was so severe that it caused major head trauma to the victim. This included his face being crushed, having one hand cut off and partially cutting off one foot.
Karl Bradshaw was an employee at the near by houseboat repair shop and had lived in Shasta County for over ten years. Bradshaw was innocently sitting in his pick-up truck during a break from work when he too, was violently attack with a splitting maul by McDonald. Our investigation revealed that Bradshaw tried to drive away after being stuck in the head numerous times with a splitting maul. The truck in which he was driving drove a short distance and crashed into a boat which was park in front of the above listed address. After the truck came to rest, Thomas McDonald approached the victim again and began violently beating Bradshaw in the head with the splitting maul causing his face to be crushed.
During this violent attack, McDonald admitted to Detectives that he set the truck on fire by throwing a cigarette into a flammable liquid which was draining either from the boat or the truck.
At the conclusion of last nights investigation, detectives learned that this violent attack started at Gray St. Pierre’s residence, 15472 Wonderland Blvd. Thomas McDonald who was living with St. Pierre became upset as he believed that someone was stealing medication from him. Both St. Pierre and Captain Ricks tried to calm McDonald down inside of the residence but was met with McDonald holding a fork in his hands. McDonald stabbed both St. Pierre and Ricks inside the home and then fled outside where he attacked the two deceased subjects.
Thomas McDonald was recently released from prison and is on active State Parole involving property crime, minor assaults and drug related charges.
This investigation is gruesome and our Office is continuing with the investigation.
